Welcome to Low Cinema
Dir. Michael Grodner, 2018, 82 min. USA
Q&A with Michael Grodner and Joe Cardamone on Feb 21st.
Michael Grodner’s ”The Icarus Line Must Die” is a narrative feature, inspired by the No Wave films of the late ’70s and early ’80s and explores the LA underground music scene. The film tracks Joe Cardamone as a veiled version of himself — also a guy named Joe, also the frontman of a band called The Icarus Line — as he navigates his way through the ups and downs of the modern music landscape. It’s not easy. The film is filled with other regulars from the LA music scene, including Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks), Justin Pearson (The Locust) and Jerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight), along with performances by Pink Mountaintops, Together Pangea, The Icarus Line, Retox, Obliterations, and Annie Hardy of Giant Drag.” - (INDIEWIRE)
"The finest rock 'n' roll movie of the 21st century so far” - A.S. Hamrah, National Society of Film Critics "There's never been a rock n' roll film quite like The Icarus Line Must Die" - Noel Murray, The Los Angeles Times "I'm firmly in the "love" camp for this remarkable Los Angeles time capsule." - April Wolfe, The Wrap
