The Basement Presents: Tammy and the T. Rex (1994) – Sunday, September 14, 8:00PM

$15.00

To mark the publication of The Basement Tapes — a curated deep dive into the eclectic VHS archive of The Basement, a studio and art collective based in San Francisco’s Mission District — Low Cinema is proud to host a screening of Tammy and the T. Rex, projected directly from a tape straight out of the collective’s archive. Legend has it that the idea for the film emerged from a used, animatronic T. Rex acquired by chance by an acquaintance of writer-director Stewart Raffill’s, who then penned the screenplay within a week and shot the entire film at locations within minutes of his residence.

The Basement Tapes — published by Vinegar Syndrome Press — offers a unique look at the Bay Area duo’s collection, shaped by a fascination with greasy horror films, obscure science fiction, niche special-interest nightmares, and exploitation cinema. The Basement Tapes serves as both a visual archive and a passionate tribute to these often-overlooked pieces of analog media history.

The Basement’s Luca Antonucci and Mitsu Okubo will be present to introduce the film and to offer remarks on their growing archive and on the labor of collecting physical media.

Special thanks to Christopher Norris at Vinegar Syndrome and Mark Freado at Topos Press.

All sales are final and tickets are non-refundable.
