Tim Burton's disarmingly kinky, charmingly gothic sequel imagines a Gotham City at Christmastime, terrorized by two supervillains—Catwoman and The Penguin—as hell-bent on destroying the Caped Crusader as they are fornicating with him and/or each other. Sold by Warner Bros. as family friendly spectacle, Burton's second Batman outing is a masterpiece of camp histrionics and impressionistic production design. It's high time to recognize it as one of the great holiday movies.
