Originally conceived as a way to promote emerging VR technology, the extremely loose film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 short story was co-produced by noted anime producer Masao Takiyama and featured cutting-edge CGI animation by Angel Studios (later rechristened Rockstar San Diego).
Pierce Brosnan stars as an obsessive computer scientist exploring the frontiers of virtual reality using experimental nootropic drugs. When his funding is cut off, he has to choose between giving up his life’s work and compromising his ethics. The developmentally challenged local gardener (Jeff Fahey) makes a suitable human test subject, but as the powerful drugs supercharge his intellect, his mind becomes a dangerous weapon.
