In the summer of 1999, all you needed to sell a 160 minute long original drama to the general public was three names: Cruise. Kidman. Kubrick. At least if the marketing materials for Eyes Wide Shut are any indicator. The heaping amounts of controversy surrounding Kubrick's posthumous epic likely didn't hurt either. Two and a half decades removed, Eyes Wide Shut is as canonical as any film in Kubrick's small but mighty oeuvre; a Christmastime saga of marital turmoil punctuated by bouts of prolonged, kinky sexuality that haven't been tempered with time.
