Sunflower Lane is an intergenerational collective composed of artists from across NYC, creating an animated series that tells personal stories of resilience and resistance. 

The Watermelon Woman will be preceded by a short film:

"Danasia and Cassandra: Doctor's Appointment" by Amari Outlaw-Clark

A queer Black woman fears going to the doctor after her first hookup, but with the help of her friend, she can overcome her fears and get the support she deserves.

 This screening will include the Sunflower Lane series trailer, an introduction by the creator and animator of the short film, Amari Outlaw-Clark.

- Followed by the feature ‘The Watermelon Woman’ - part queer romantic comedy, part detective story, this feature by Cheryl Dunye follows a young filmmaker as she investigates the life of a forgotten Black actress from 1930s Hollywood known only as “The Watermelon Woman.” As Cheryl uncovers hidden histories, she navigates love, friendship, and questions of identity. Criterion Channel called it ‘endlessly revealing.’
